Haley Barbour on Relief Efforts
Matt Friedman at Evangelism Today has a post on Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour's response to the question: Shouldn't our troops be here helping clean up the hurricane instead of in Iraq?
An excerpt.
You know what? A reporter asked President Bush today, and said ‘there’s a lot of talk down here about Iraq, with resources going to Iraq.’ Whereas, there’s no talk about it with anyone I talk to—except reporters. I haven’t heard the word Iraq mentioned one time—in Hattiesburg, Meridian, Laurel, Gulfport, Biloxi—not one time. But when I’m asked, I’ll give you what the President, who was nicer about the question than I am, and who’s nicer than I would have been to that guy.

My wife and I have pulled together "ready to wear" clothes and we cannot find one group who would like the items. Everybody wants money. Money helps but we have clothes which have been donated from all over the country and they have all been washed and are now in perfectly good condition. Isn't it amazing that so much junk has been given and now someone who has nice stuff to provide has no place to go.....

Robert:
I'm sorry to hear that your donations weren't accepted. Have you tried a local shelter in your area? Or a church clothes closet? I heard this morning that there are 5,100 Gulf Coast refugees in Missouri. I'm sure there will be some local agencies that take them somewhere.
